Q: Are there costs associated with volunteering at AVHS?

A: Volunteers are required to purchase a volunteer t-shirt for $10.00. You can purchase these at the time of your volunteer orientation.

Q: Can I satisfy court-ordered community requirements?

A: At this time we are unable to provide court-ordered community service.

Q: How do I become a volunteer?

A: Apply online at our Get Involved Page. You will then receive confirmation of submission of your application from our volunteer coordinator. After reviewing your application, the volunteer coordinator will send you an email to inform you of the next volunteer orientation that you will need to attend. After you have completed orientation, you will schedule yourself for a dog and/or cat proficiency with one of our staff members.

Q: How old do you have to be to volunteer?

A: To volunteer at the shelter, you must be at least 12 years of age. Volunteers ages 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. To see volunteer opportunities outside of the shelter, please visit our DIY volunteer page.

Q: I’m not old enough to volunteer, but I want to help. What can I do?

A: Host a fundraiser. If interested, please email our volunteer coordinator at hmills@ark-valley.org.

Host a donation drive at your school to collect items off of our wish list which you can then donate to us.

Explore our DIY Volunteer page to do things from home like bake dog and cat treats and make dog or cat toys.
